This is actually a really funny story, years ago, that has to do with a friend (not named Freida) and a homeless man in Rittenhouse Square that was a big fan of Motown music. He kept trying to flirt with the friend, and, as laughter filled the air and she created some more distance... he starts calling for her, longingly.... "Freida... Freida come back, come back baby", arms outstretched.
Freida.....?
Freida.... set me free.... THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SOUL SONG! LET'S TURN IT INTO A SONG!
Who or what is/was your Freida? When was that moment you realized that you could love again? Wonderful revelation, isn't it? YOU CAN LOVE! Sometimes it takes something/one else to get that message across to you.
lyrics
Freida, set me free.
Show me all that I could be, yeah.
Threw away all my pain and misery.
I was blind but now I can see.
Suffered for so many moons, thought nothing could shake off these blues.
Ever since she left me, thought nobody could fill her shoes.
And I didn't even wanna try, I didn't even get a final goodbye.
But now you're mind, and I know for sure, that you gave me a reason to live once more.
Freida, set me free.
Show me all that I could be, yeah.
Threw away all my pain and misery.
I was blind but now I can see...
...that it's been so long, since that girl has been gone.
I try my best to be strong but, it's so hard when your love is wrong.
Felt like I was gonna die, so hurt I couldn't even cry.
But then you came, and you tore my world wide open.
You taught me how, how to love again.
Freida, set me free.
Show me all that I could be, yeah.
Threw away all my pain and misery.
I was blind but now I can see...
I didn't think that anybody could reach into my soul,
now there's no need to worry when my vision is blurry.
Well I learned to let go, I just had to let go.
Yeah, you made me realize that when you girls turn 'round and run...
well I got to be strong and keep movin on.... yeah.
Oh, Freida, set me free.
Showed me all that I could be, yeah.
Threw away all my pain and misery.
I was blind but now I can see...
Oh Freida, set me free,
brought out another side of me,
threw away all my pain and misery.
I was blind but now I can see. I can see.
